You can use the Chi-squared test to assess the independence between two categorical variables, but by itself it tells you nothing beyond this. In this video Emiel takes the interpretation of the Chi-squared test a bit further. He explains how you can learn more about the strength and the pattern of the association between two categorical variables by using Cramér's V and standardised residuals.
